In periods with low water levels, the maximum load factor (in TEU) of inland vessels decreases. This leads to an increase in the price per TEU. In order to be able to cover the additional costs, a low water surcharge is imposed for periods with low water levels. The low water surcharge comes into effect the moment the water level at the measuring point ‘Pegel Duisburg Ruhrort’ (Lower Rhein) reaches 3.00 m or lower. The water level scale will be adjusted from 01.01.2024. Further information can be found below.
In the event of low water levels, we will always offer you the option of transporting your container(s) via a different modality such as train or truck. If possible, we will present you with an alternative route so that your container arrives at its final destination on time.
